Spring Policy Forum 2024 | HABRI

The HABRI 2024 Spring Policy Forum brought together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, experts in veterinary medicine and human health advocates to explore the latest findings on the human-animal bond and to consider how we can better integrate this knowledge into health care systems, public policies, and community initiatives.

The 2024 forum focused specifically on the intersections of research, practice, and policy necessary to support pet ownership and AAls, and to ensure that more individuals and communities can access the mental health benefits of the human-animal bond for improved public health.

The report below summarizes the findings from the HABRI 2024 Spring Policy Forum, sharing how scientific research serves as the foundation for advancing model practices and programs relating to pets and mental health, and underscores the importance of policies that support the human-animal bond.

About

Hosted by the Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI), this day-long Forum brought together leaders in the pet care community and our partners in the mental health space to move society toward more widespread and growing awareness of the important role of companion animals for better mental health.

By bringing together researchers, human health practitioners, the pet care community, and public policy experts, this also served as a springboard for future collaborations in research, practice, and policy on the important role of companion animals for better mental health and public health overall.

Program

The 2024 Spring Policy Forum addressed the research, practice, and policy associated with this important topic, featuring expert speakers from a wide array of disciplines, including veterinary medicine, animal welfare, human-animal interaction, mental health and wellness, public policy and more.
